Hi, I’m Jacob.

I'm passionate about two things in physiotherapy: Evidence-informed practice and my patients. My patients inspire me to provide the most comprehensive, individualized and effective treatment possible. With 6 years of University education, 9 years of practice and over 25 post-graduate courses completed to date, I utilize the latest scientific evidence to diagnose musculoskeletal dysfunctions, and deliver cutting-edge treatment.

My goal is to help my patients not only recover from their pain but make strong progression in their sport and activity performance.  I do this by blending rehabilitation with performance training strategies.

A few of my most valued credentials include:

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist - National Strength and Conditioning Association
Level 3 Upper and Level 3 Lower Diploma Of Manual Therapy
- Orthopaedic Division of Canadian Physiotherapy Association
Certified Manual Therapist - Swodeam Institute
Level 2 Functional Dry Needling - Kinetacore Physical Therapy Education
Foundations of Anatomical Acupuncture - Acupuncture Canada
Rehab 570 Diagnostic Imaging for Physical Therapists - University of Alberta
Complete Concussion Management Practitioner
Selective Functional Movement Assessment & Functional Movement Screen

During a typical assessment I watch clients perform movement patterns important to their life and sports, perform movements that challenge their coordination, and challenge their understanding of how they move.  Secondly, a comprehensive orthopaedic assessment is performed to diagnose their injury.  Once I have gathered these pieces of information, I can then provide individualized, evidence-informed interventions to help my clients reduce their pain and create lasting, meaningful change.

I offer this one-on-one manual therapy and exercise focused treatment to Olympic, professional and amateur athletes, as well as people of all ages and backgrounds from the general public.

I have been involved in the rehabilitation and performance field since 2005.  In addition to my career as a Physiotherapist, I have worked as a Kinesiologist, Personal Fitness Trainer, University Teaching Assistant, and an Athletic Trainer with Acadia University’s Varsity Football Team.  I graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Kinesiology (Specializing in Sports Rehabilitation), and Queen’s University with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy.

My wife and I spend the bulk of our leisure time playing in the mountains: In the summer I spend my time rock climbing, alpine climbing, mountain biking and trail running. In the winter I spend my time ice climbing, backcountry skiing, and cross-country skiing.  My understanding of mountain sports allows me to better understand my clients’ injuries, how their injuries relate to their sport, and allows me to accurately design their rehabilitation programs.

My mission is to provide the highest quality Physiotherapy service to clients in Canmore and Banff. In addition, I hope to provide meaningful education using my blog on this website. Some topics may be geared towards Physiotherapists, and others towards athletes or the general population. Please feel free to comment, add insight, or ask questions! The rehab world often has multiple ways to look at the same problem, and as a professional in a state of perpetual growth, I would love to discuss any topic with you!

Enjoy!
